The highly anticipated Facebook F8 finally kicked off yesterday in San Jose, California.

Yesterday, Mark Zuckerberg and his colleagues made some significant announcements during this year’s Facebook F8, the annual conference organized by Facebook for developers and entrepreneurs. Here are some of the highlights from the conference’s first day.

Facebook Dating

The social media giant is now venturing into matchmaking with its new dating feature. Dubbed as Facebook Dating, it will be integrated into the current app and is said to work like Tinder. The only difference is that users will have the capability to connect it with Facebook Event to find better matches at concerts or parties.

According to Zuckerberg, the feature is meant to help people build real, long-term relationships and not just hookups.

Clear History

Zuckerberg, during his keynote speech at Facebook F8, talked about a new privacy feature that will allow users to delete data that the social media network has collected from sites and apps that utilizes its ads and analytics tool.

This means that people will be able to wipe away some of their browsing history from Facebook’s data store itself. This feature, apparently, is in response to the Cambridge Analytica data breach scandal.

Oculus Go

Yesterday, the company’s standalone VR headset, Oculus Go, went on sale for only $199 USD. The move was a clear attempt to convince consumers that virtual reality can be affordable and accessible. Aside from Oculus Go, the company also introduced Oculus TV where users can watch Netflix or Hulu using the VR headset. There’s also the Oculus Venues where live concerts, sporting events, and other shows could be streamed.

With a new integration platform, people will now be able to share their favorite playlist on Spotify to Instagram Story. Aside from that, users will also be able to upload footages directly from the GoPro app into the photo-sharing application. Instagram will also be sporting new AR features similar to Facebook’s Camera Effects Platform.

It was also announced during the first day of the Facebook F8 that the Messenger would be getting a new design to improve the interaction between businesses and consumers.

There will be a new Customer Chat plug-in that would allow companies to integrate Messenger into their websites. Aside from that, Messenger’s virtual assistant, M, will have a new functionality tool that will offer real-time translations within the chat app.

Were you impressed by these announcements from Facebook or do you expect more from the company?
