American telecommunications company Cox has reportedly launched a gaming-optimized Internet service for gamers. Known as Elite Gamer, the service provides lower latency and smoother playing experience for fans of online gaming.

Cox is currently running Elite Gamer as a limited trial service in Arizona. The company claims that the Internet service was already able to reduce lag by up to 34 percent, latency by up to 55 percent, and jittering by 45 percent.

However, the improved performance is only achievable if specific criteria in the fine print are met. The requirements include using the service on two devices only, using particular servers for specific games, and adding it to an existing Cox plan that supports 100 Mbps or more. Cox wrote on its website:

“The Cox Elite Gamer Service (CEG) uses an intelligent server network to route your game connection.  Our service focuses on creating the best connection possible for gaming, and only gaming!”

Gaming-Optimized Internet Service

The gaming-optimized Internet service offered by Cox will be under a trial run for the next three months in Arizona and is only available to Cox plan subscribers.

If you are not a Cox subscriber and you want to experience Elite Gamer, you need to subscribe to one of Cox’s service package which ranges from $55.99 to $119.99 USD per month. On top of that, you will be required to pay an additional $14.99 USD per month for Elite Gamer.

The initial service package will provide a subscriber with two login credentials that can be used simultaneously. A person can buy up to a total of five simultaneous user logins for his/her account.

“You can use multiple computers, as long as there are not more simultaneous users than the number of subscriptions you have purchased.”

In a statement, a Cox spokesperson was quoted as saying:

“Cox Elite Gamer solves a problem with deficiencies in the public Internet, NOT our network. No customer’s experience is degraded as a result of any customers purchasing Cox Elite Gamer service as an add-on to their Internet service.”
