Following the launch of Verily‘s Coronavirus website, Google has partnered up with the U.S. government to develop its website.

At a press conference on Friday, President Trump announced that Google would be launching a Coronavirus website.

Along with telling people whether or not they should get tested for the COVID-19, the website would also facilitate testing at a nearby location, said the President. The announcement was a piece of great news, considering the current pandemic.

There was just one problem; Google had not said anything about creating a coronavirus website — at least not at the time. Meanwhile, another Alphabet company did just that in its Friday announcement.

On Sunday night, Alphabet’s Verily launched a pilot of COVID-19 screening and testing website, a day earlier than it said it would. However, the small-scale webpage was designed to serve the San Francisco Bay Area only, not the whole nation, as Trump had said.

A spokesperson for the Alphabet subsidiary, Verily, Carolyn Wang told the press:

“What we’re building is a triage tool that will live on ProjectBaseline.com, and we plan to pilot it in California next week.”

Expectedly, this led to brief confusion.

Google Confirms its Nationwide Coronavirus Website

Finally, Google tweeted on Monday that the company was working with the U.S. government to curb the spread of COVID-19. The partnership also entails informing citizens and protecting the health of communities.

With this in mind, the tech giant said that it’s collaborating with the United States government to build a nationwide Coronavirus website.

In its Twitter post, Google wrote:

“Google is partnering with the U.S. Government in developing a nationwide website that includes information about COVID-19 symptoms, risk, and testing information.”

Unlike the Verily website, which will direct Bay Area residents to testing locations, Google’s website only provides a wide range of information.

The company also stated that it intends to take additional measures, including a Google home page promotion. That way, it can increase awareness of the simple ways to curb the diseases’ spread.

Finally, Google says it intends to demote all sources of misinformation and conspiracy theories concerning Coronavirus on its platform. Conversely, it would promote reliable sources of information in Search as well as YouTube’s search result.
