Are you still rocking a smartphone with a microSD slot? Well you now have the option of inserting a card with an extreme amount of data storage on it to the tune of 1,000,000 megabytes.

Most of us own or use MicroSD cards on a daily basis, whether in our phones, tablets, or some games consoles. For some time, the memory capacity of these cards has been an issue, particularly for gaming. But now, these newly released 1TB MicroSDs make those problems a thing of the past.

Ready for MicroSD 4K streaming?

How many Switch games can a 1 TB microSD card hold? Enough is probably the answer since one of the flagship games, Super Mario Odyssey, is just 5.7 GB.

Micron and SanDisk both announced their new cards at the Mobile World Congress today.

So far, we know that Micron’s card reads at speeds up to 100 MB/s and can write at speeds up to 95 MB/s. SanDisk’s microSD card reads at top speeds of around 160 MB/s. However, its write speeds are lower at around 90 MB/s.

But SanDisk says that you can fill this new card at double the speed of your average UHS-I microSD card available now. Current data suggests that the Micron card delivers this trait, as well.

How Much, Launch Data, and Smart Device Readiness

Both cards are 4K compatible, as you read above, but they’re also both A2 certified. That means these cards will function smoothly with smartphones and tablets, too.

While the storage and speeds are impressive, the price might still leave you aghast.

The 1 TB SanDisk card should debut with a retail MSRP of $499.99 USD. But you can pick up the 512 GB version for a whopping $300 USD less.

We don’t yet know the price point for the Micron card, but it will likely be similar to SanDisk’s.

The best news: you can preorder the SanDisk card right now with more availability slated for April of this year. Micron, as with the price of their product, has not announced an official date. However, we can expect to see them sometime in 2019.
