Mozilla just unveiled its encrypted file-sharing tool, Firefox Send. The standalone service is designed for sharing large files up to 2.5GB in size without jeopardizing the sender’s personal data.

The tool is super easy to use. All you have to do is go to send.firefox.com then upload your files either by clicking the ‘Select files to upload’ button or by dragging and dropping them on the upload spot.

Mozilla claims that all uploaded files to their servers are encrypted. File sharers can protect their files with a password or set an expiration date after reaching a specific number of downloads.

Mozilla said in its announcement:

“Send is a free encrypted file transfer service that allows users to safely and simply share files from any browser. Additionally, Send will also be available as an Android app in beta later this week. Now that it’s a keeper, we’ve made it even better, offering higher upload limits and greater control over the files you share.”

According to Mozilla, Firefox Send uses an end-to-end encryption technology that ensures a user’s file is safe from the time of uploading up to the time the receiver opens it.

While non-Firefox account sharers can upload and share files up to 1GB in size, users with Firefox accounts receive an extra 1.5G.

Recipients do not have to sign up for a Firefox account to download files. All they have to do is click the download link of the data. The browser maker claims that their file-sharing process is convenient for both parties and as quick as sending an email.

Nick Nguyen, Mozilla’s VP of Firefox Product, said:

“We know there are several cloud sharing solutions out there, but as a continuation of our mission to bring you more private and safer choices, you can trust that your information is safe with Send.

As with all Firefox apps and services, Send is Private By Design, meaning all of your files are protected, and we stand by our mission to handle your data privately and securely.”
