Snapchat’s new feature “Context Cards” allows you to find out more information about any snap you are viewing.

Context Cards basically lets you research locations you see in snaps and provides you with extra info and possible actions you can perform.

The disappearing messaging app has partnered with Uber, Lyft, Michelin, goop, OpenTable, Bookatable, Resy, TripAdvisor and Foursquare to deliver information like reviews, contact information, business hours, websites etc all within the app.

With Context Cards, Snapchat users can also perform actions like requesting a ride with Uber or making table reservations at restaurants.

Additionally, Snap has integrated Context Cards into Stories which makes it possible to see other snaps from locations similar to the ones you checked out.

In a blog post published on Tuesday, the company wrote:

“With Context Cards, Snaps have become the visual starting point for learning more about the world, empowering our community to get more information about anything that catches their eye.

The billions of Snaps created each day on Snapchat power products like Stories, Search, Snap Map and now, Context Cards. As we learn more about how to improve Context Cards, we’ll be adding more partners and additional information. Stay tuned!”

What Does This Update Mean For Snapchat?

This update is a great way for Snap to get more small businesses on their app. Up until now, most small businesses wouldn’t see the point of having a Snapchat account. A Facebook page and a listing on “Google My Business” was a perfectly adequate presence for small business.

Now, their businesses are more likely to start showing in people’s snap which necessitates a Snapchat presence.

Also, we believe this update opens up more possibilities for Snap to expand its advertising features.

How Long Before Facebook Steals This Feature Too?

We haven’t seen Facebook implement a similar feature for its social media platform or messenger yet. Facebook Pages already offers all the information about the businesses that own them, so maybe they don’t see the need right now.

In fact, Facebook Messenger has bots which pretty much do everything Context Cards do already. The bots are actually getting more smarter by the day thanks to the power of Artificial Intelligence.

However, we can’t say the same for Instagram which in several ways is similar to Snapchat. A feature like Context Cards will make perfect sense on Instagram. And since Facebook owns Instagram, it clearly won’t be long before Facebook technically implements a similar feature.

What do you think about Snap’s latest feature? Do you think it’ll in any way help boost Snap’s growth which has been stagnant for some time now?
