The U.S. Air Force is continuing the development and deployment of its Cyber Mission Platform (CMP) with a Northrop Grumman Corporation (NYSE: NOC) contract.
According to reports, the NOC contract is worth $9.4 million USD and has a one-year base period. It was said to be a part of the three-year task order by the Air Force Life Cycle Management Center (AFLCMC), Cryptologic and Cyber Systems Division which aims to further develop and deploy the Air Force’s Cyber Mission Platform (CMP).
The contract also saw Northrop expanding its presence in San Antonio. Last week, the company announced that it had signed a 5-year lease with Port San Antonio to occupy 7,700 square feet at the port on Billy Mitchell Boulevard.

The NOC Contract to Improve U.S. Air Force’s Cybersecurity
In an announcement released by the company on its website about the NOC contract, the company said:
“Northrop Grumman is leveraging its ‘agile-earned value’ approach and model- based systems engineering to help warfighters respond more quickly to emerging requirements and facilitate shorter development time.”
Linnie Haynesworth, vice president and general manager, cyber and intelligence mission solutions division, Northrop Grumman Mission Systems, went on to say that the company is honored to support the Air Force in fielding its critical warfighting platform. She was quoted as saying:
“CMP enables rapid integration of cyberspace capabilities, enhancing how warfighters can respond to the dynamic and evolving mission environment. Our agile approach will greatly increase the Air Force’s ability to ensure a strong deterrent force in the face of an ever-changing cyber threat.”
CMP is considered to be the Air Force’s first comprehensive cyberspace operations system which aims to provide a platform where cyber tools and weapons can operate, be managed and delivered.
Currently, Northrop has 35 employees deployed in San Antonio. The company also announced its plans of hiring an undisclosed number of employees in the future.

The company originally won the NOC contract to develop the Air Force’s CMP in August 2014. It was awarded under the U.S. General Services Administration Alliant Government-wide Acquisition Contract.
“Northrop Grumman is the incumbent on this recompete and will continue development, integration, fielding and sustainment for the CMP program.”
Northrop Grumman is considered as the 4th largest military and defense contractor in the United States. Its services include providing innovative systems, products and solutions in autonomous systems, cyber, C4ISR, strike, logistics, and modernization to customers worldwide.
Last week, another NOC contract was secured by the company in relation to the United States Navy‘s WSN-7 navigation system. The contract was reported to be awarded by the Naval Sea Systems Command, Washington D.C. and covers a one-year option for the production and supply of associated provisioned items of the WSN-7 navigation system. Work will be carried out in Charlottesville, VA. and is scheduled to end by April 2019.
