This article details breaking news about Enhance Games releasing their game called the Tetris Effect. The game will feature a virtual reality spin on the classic puzzle game Tetris.

Tetsuya Mizuguchi, the mind behind Enhance Games’ main success Rez, will lead the project. There will be a playable demo at E3 2018 next week, as well.

What can we expect from this new take on a retro classic?

What to Expect Before the Game’s Release

The Tetris Effect will debut on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation VR in fall 2018. They only announced today as part of Sony’s official countdown to E3 stream.

Named for the oddity of when you become so involved in an activity that it affects your dreams and thoughts, this new Tetris game will actually feature a more immersive experience. VR could potentially amplify this real-world phenomenon.

That explains the game name of “The Tetris Effect” — clever developers.

But you can expect the game to feature several modes such as Sprint, Marathon, and Ultra. It will also have a Zone mechanic that could snowball into a “Game Over” or see the player get extra rewards.

Each of the 30 stages will have unique music, graphical stylings, sound effects, and backgrounds. Tetsuya Mizuguchi’s background with Rez informs the new game’s focus on sound and music.

How Will VR Figure into Gameplay?

Mizuguchi hopes the game will give players a “magical feeling of total immersion by surrounding you with fantastic, fully three-dimensional worlds that react and evolve based on how you play.”

Given that some levels will take place in space or underwater, this VR element is exciting. But few details exist right now as to how VR will come into play for each level.

A remastered version of Enhance Games’ musical puzzle game Lumines Remastered will precede The Tetris Effect with a summer release.

Now if only we could get such greats news about Dragon Age 4.
