With the first Boring Company tunnel nearing completion, Elon Musk’s dream of establishing a network of tunnels enabling fast and efficient electric transit is coming closer to reality.

But, let’s be honest. Musk just wants to circumvent LA-area traffic.

On Thursday, Elon Musk released a video of the first “nearly” completed Boring Company tunnel under Los Angeles. On his Instagram account, Musk wrote:

“First Boring Company tunnel under LA almost done! Pending final regulatory approvals, we will be offering free rides to the public in a few months.

Super huge thanks to everyone that helped with this project. Strong support from public, elected officials & regulators is critical to success.

As mentioned in prior posts, once fully operational (demo system rides will be free), the system will always give priority to pods for pedestrians & cyclists for less than the cost of a bus ticket.”

The 305-feet “Loop” tunnel that reportedly has an entrance in SpaceX’s parking lot in Hawthorne is almost done. Pending regulatory approvals, the tunnel will soon allow the Boring company to offer free rides to the public in a few months.

Musk also reiterated that while the tunnels will prioritize transporting pedestrians and cyclists, cars and other private vehicles could still use them. Aside from the video of the tunnel, Musk also said in a tweet that the Boring Company also started digging a tunnel between Washington DC and New York.

The company is also aiming to start digging a path between San Francisco and Los Angeles next year.

Are you excited to try one of Elon Musk’s “Loop” pods soon?
