Google has recently adjusted its photo and video content policy for Google My Business Listings.
Late last year, Google rolled out specific photos and video criteria for merchants using its Google My Business listings.
For example, a format specific criteria required that users take photos and videos at the location of the business. Also, the image must fulfill all the conditions of the stylistic adjustments that the tech company set.
At the time, Google said that it was introducing the policies to ensure that the content in the Business Profile is relevant, high quality, and appropriate. Now, the tech giant will be reviewing images and videos to ensure that the media content meets these conditions before publishing.
Last week, Google posted this on its Google My Business Listing handle:
“We’ve made changes to our photo and video content policy. All images and videos are now reviewed before publication. If you’re having issues adding pictures, check out our photo criteria:Â http://spr.ly/60141o7QQ“
Here’s what we know about the new content policy so far.
Photo and Video Policy for Google My Business
The tech company didn’t have a mandatory review in place until now. So, it could take longer than usual for your photos and video to show up on your GMB profile after uploading.
At first, the tech company did not disclose whether it intends to use artificial intelligence for the review or human analysts.
While a human review would be more thorough, it could be slower. And this could result in a longer delay before publishing content on Business Profile. However, Google confirmed its review method yesterday.
In a statement to Search Engine Roundtable, the search engine giant said:
“While we don’t share specific details about our moderation processes, we do use a combination of automated and manual reviews, and continue to work on making photo approvals as efficient as possible.”
According to reports, the new policy may apply to user-generated content only. So, content uploaded directly by a business owner may not be subject to review before publishing.
