Sony Xperia 1: Exciting Specs With a Hefty Price Tag

9to5Google first noticed the update on March 13th, 2019 early in the morning. And though the features of the Sony Xperia 1 remain a bit mysterious, we now have a price for pre-order.

You can place the order through Amazon now with optional protection plans available. Of course, the page says this item won’t be released until December 31, 2019. Previous announcements indicated the product would launch in May or June 2019.

Conveniently, there’s also an ad for the Samsung Galaxy Note9 on this page. How curious!

The Xperia 1 joins other newly announced smartphones in the $900 – $1,000 range including the Google Pixel 3 and the Samsung Galaxy S10. The manufacturers justify the higher prices using the expanded hardware capabilities.

Despite cost trepidation, many people remain excited about the Xperia 1’s specs.

Can the Xperia 1 Stand up to Its Rivals?

The phone touts a wide array of features to titillate even the most tech-focused users. The 4K OLED screen features a 21:9 aspect ratio which should be great for Netflix on planes and the like. The 6.5″ screen promises enhanced color vibrancy, something Sony usually offers in its phones.

But the triple lens camera system can use up to a 10 fps burst shooting. It also has AF/AE tracking to enhance focus and exposure.

As 9to5Google pointed out, the price point may push people to the cheaper Xperia 10/10 Plus. And CNET’s initial review of the Xperia 1 did not inspire much confidence in the phone’s features over its competitors.

The cameras will provide significant color accuracy, as well as cinema modes. But it only comes with 6 GB of RAM as opposed to the 12GB on some Samsung models. Especially given the rising popularity of foldable technology, the Xperia 1 may be too unmemorable to make its mark.
